Women's Resource Center to hold furniture drive at By Candlelight Amish Furnishings
The Women's Resource Center of Grand Traverse (WRC) needs to increase its supply of furniture and household goods (plates, glasses, linens, etc.). On Saturday, March 22nd the WRC Thrift Shop truck will be in the By Candlelight Amish Furnishings parking lot on the corner of Front Street and Hall Street in the Traverse City warehouse district. Donations will be accepted from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

"We are thankful that By Candlelight has offered us their space. It's a central location which we hope will help increase donations," stated Carol Rose, Thrift Shop Manager. "January and February are typically slow donation months, and these items are in short supply as spring approaches."

Though the WRC receives some State and Federal grants, approximately 45% of its operating budget comes from public support that includes Thrift Shop sales. The WRC Thrift Shop gives an average of $9,500 worth of merchandise to clients and others in need each month.

By Candlelight is also offering an incentive to those who donate. "Any one who donates will receive a 20% coupon off any replacement piece from our collection," said owner Sarah Jane Bye. It seems like every Spring we all have things in our homes we want to get rid of or replace. This is the opportunity to do just that and help others in need. Cuppa Joe's new Warehouse District location will also be supporting the drive by serving hot coffee.

For over 30 years, the Womens Resource Center has been the primary service provider of our region's, addressing domestic and sexual violence. It provides education, support, counseling, housing, and advocacy through community collaboration and promotes an equitable, safe environment for all.
